The Bay has been day to day for most of the week, with some of the fishermen still reporting limits. There was a good “Pour Off” (outgoing tide) bite over the weekend with a 45 lbs King was weighed in on Saturday afternoon! The fishing has also starting to pickup near the mouth of Indian Creek with the return of the Hatchery fish. A few more Silver Salmon were caught this week, and that number should be getting better by the end of the month, and through October.

The weather in Gold Beach for the up coming week is: 70’s F through the weekend, with a low of 54 F. Then a cooling trend will begin and continue through the remainder of the week, with a chance of showers.

Side drifting upriver was still very productive through the weekend, with one day’s catch totaling 17 Salmon! As the week went on, most of the fish seemed to have moved into the canyon, and out of the Agness area. The Bay has been up and down for most of the week, with some of the fishermen reporting limits, and others averaging 1-2 Salmon per boat. The warmer weather in the forecast for the Valley this upcoming week, should warm the water temperature, and hopefully keep the Salmon holding in the Bay.

The bad weather made fishing difficult for the most part. On Tuesday the winds died down, and the fishing was wide open in the Bay, some say it’s was one of the best days they had seen in years. There was also a good push of Jack Salmon which came in. This is good news for next years run. Bill went up river to avoid the bad weather, and he had some fantastic days! As many as 12 fish a day up to 25 lbs.

Saturday the 29th was “Derby Day” Lots of boats, and some nice fish, were weighed in. The winning fish weighing in at 41 1/2 pounds, taking the $1000 Grand Prize! More Kings are coming in daily, and most boats are averaging 1.5 fish a day. Trolling spinner baits has been the top producer. A large, recent run of “Jacks” (2 year old Kings) shows good promise for next years fishing. The Coho’s (Silver) Salmon should start to show in the bay soon.

The cooling weather forecast with some showers over the weekend, might get these Salmon on the move up river.

The big tides cooled the water temperature in the bay and with it, more salmon. The fishing continues to be up and down from day to day. The wind started to pickup by the weekend, which made fishing a bit tough. As the River temperature stays warm, the Salmon will continue to hold in the bay, and the fishing should really pick up. More and more Kings are beginning to roll throughout the Bay. The Salmon are averaging 18-25 lbs with a few going over 30 pounds.
